COVID-19 and Indigenous communities in Brazil with Emilee Gilpin

Brazil’s population of over 211 million is facing one of the highest infection rates of COVID-19 in the world. Protestors around the world are calling for the resignation of the country’s right-wing, populist president Jair Bolsonaro who first dismissed the disease as a common cold. All this amid growing tensions between Bolsanoro and Indigenous communities, as his government continues to colonize the Amazon. Managing Director of Canada’s National Observer’s First Nations Forward, Emilee Gilpin joins host Linda Solomon Wood from Brazil to explain what’s happening, how Indigenous communities are being impacted by COVID-19, and introduce us to the First Nations Forward series.
